Produce, audit, maintain and distribute complex financial reporting, reviewing and record keeping activities. Perform accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger, moderate measurement of account values, journal entry, and account reconciliation. Perform variance analysis for various financial data and metrics.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain general ledger accounts including the determination of journal entry requirements, posting, account reconciliations, reporting, and monitoring of closing results; and may review some work of accounting specialists
  • Perform analysis of financial results as part of the financial and operational review process; analyze and project expected outcome or results
  • Conduct monthly General Ledger reconciliations and other financial controls in compliance with company policy and Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Conduct preliminary review of financial reports prior to final close of general ledger
  • Apply working knowledge of GAAP and related guidance; verify documents for completeness and compliance with appropriate authoritative guidance
  • Research questions for management; investigate and explain variances to expectations
  • Understand and maintain assigned account/transaction or process from inception through approval, measurement, recording, reporting, and monitoring
  • Participate in cross-functional work teams and continuously improve XPO Logistics processes
  • Provide research to senior and executive management on operating results and other financial or accounting issues
  • Ensure the accuracy and integrity of the companys financial reporting by auditing entries against financial activity and verifying that results are properly reported; make corrections to own work and provide direction to others as needed or required
  • Perform general ledger entries
  • Perform analysis of financial data as requested
  • Continuously look to reduce company costs and spend associated with accountant-related responsibilities
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting or Finance generally required. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, or training
  • 3-5 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a large, multi-component company, and in preparing and auditing complex financial reports
  • System knowledge should include intermediate knowledge of Oracle general ledger or fixed assets, spreadsheet skills, and working knowledge of word processing, email, and financial database applications
  • Strong skills in business writing and editing; strong communication skills (oral and written); ability to communicate effectively with support peers, end users, and all levels of corporate management
  • Strong interpersonal skills; participate in a team environment and build strong working relationships. Ability to provide some work direction to team members
  • Demonstrated time management skills; multitask and prioritize work loads; demonstrated analytical capabilities; effectively identify and resolve problems in high-visibility, high-stress situations
  • Ability to receive, protect, and maintain confidential information
