Summary

Produce, audit, maintain, and distribute complex financial reporting, reviewing, and record-keeping activities. Perform accounting activities such as maintenance of the general ledger, complex measurement of account values, journal entries, account reconciliation, and reporting. Provide assessment of existing and proposed financial plans and policies. Provide work direction and review of work for team members.

Essential Functions

  • Maintain general ledger accounts and subsystems to ledger including the determination of journal entry requirements, posting, account reconciliations, reporting, and monitoring of closing results; and may review work of other analysts
  • Perform complex analysis of financial results as part of the financial and operational review process. Analyze complex data patterns and project activity; provide work direction and review to team in compilation of reporting as needed
  • Conduct preliminary review of financial reports prior to final close of general ledger; provide guidance and direction to less senior team members in closing responsibilities
  • Apply strong working knowledge of GAAP and related guidance; verify documents for completeness and compliance with government and private agencies
  • Research and analyze assigned and overall financial results and related questions for management; investigate and explain variances to expectation
  • Evaluate alternative accounting or method and recommend appropriate action to members of management and business owners
  • Understand and maintain assigned account/transaction or process from inception through approval, measurement, recording, reporting and monitoring. Perform reporting of financial information and various internal financial reporting materials
  • Conduct monthly General Ledger reconciliation and other financial controls in compliance with Sarbanes-Oxley
  • Lead team in ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the companys financial reporting by auditing entries against financial activity and verifying results are properly reported; correct work as needed or required
  • Provide mentoring and training for less senior level team members
  • Provide research to senior and executive management on financial reporting and other financial or accounting issues
  • Provide recommendations for the administration of company financial reporting systems
  • Participate in the development of company and department policies, and assist in the awareness and adaptation of new developments in the field of financial planning and control
  • Perform general ledger entries and review entries of other analysts
  • Perform other related duties and projects as assigned

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Bachelors Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field generally accepted. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, or training
  • 7+ years experience in accounting or finance, preferably in a large, multi-component company and in preparing and auditing financial reports and statistics, preferably in a leadership role. Will accept any suitable combination of education, experience, or training
  • System knowledge should include advanced knowledge of Oracle general ledger or fixed assets, advanced spreadsheet skills, and working knowledge of word processing, email, and financial database applications
  • Strong skills in business writing and editing; strong communication skills (oral and written); ability to communicate effectively with support peers, end users, and all levels of corporate management
  • Strong interpersonal skills; participate in a team environment and build strong working relationships. Strong ability to provide mentoring and work direction to team members
  • Strong project management and time management skills; ability to multitask and prioritize work loads; demonstrated analytical capabilities; effectively identify and resolve problems in high-visibility, high-stress situations
  • Ability to receive, protect, and maintain confidential information
