SUMMARY OF DUTIES:
This position is responsible for providing our passengers with superior customer service from behind the ticket counter, baggage counter or on the station floor or platform. The ability to maintain a positive, good natured attitude is essential.
Representative will be responsible for covering varying station position vacancies in Salem & Portland, OR and Vancouver, WA from a seniority based rotating guaranteed extra board. Vacancies may be Baggage, Customer Service Reps, Metropolitan Lounge Attendants and other clerical positions. Must be willing and able to work varying shifts, holidays and weekends. Candidate must be comfortable interacting with customers, speaking on a public address system and become versant with Amtrak computer systems and tariffs.
Issues, changes and makes travel reservations; ensures timely boarding of passengers; issues train orders and bulletins for train crews; handles checked baggage, package express and company materials in the station and on/off trains; must be able to lift items weighing up to 50lbs safely on a continuous basis.
Representative provides assistance to customers with special needs; Assists passengers with luggage to and from all Amtrak Services.
Representatives must comply with the companys uniform and grooming policy to present a positive image on behalf of Amtrak through manners, actions and personal style.
Previous experience in front line Customer Service with cash handling and accounting; warehouse/ package handling environment and/or within the transportation industry are preferred.
Candidate will be required to attend a paid four week training class in Los Angeles, CA or Chicago, IL when provided.
Representative must be able to push or pull a baggage cart and operate baggage equipment (i.e. tow tractor, pallet jack and forklift).
Must possess a valid State Driver's License.
Will also be required to perform janitorial duties.
Candidates must be willing to join the applicable Union.
COMMUNICATION AND INTERPERSONAL SKILLS:
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
