We are currently seeking proactive learners and resilient contributors to join our Child Welfare team of professionals. There is one full-time limited duration opening located at our Portland (NE Glisan) field office. This position is represented by a union.

What you will be doing:
+ Gather and analyze information and confirm safe environments through interviews, observations, and other source materials of the foster parents and relative caregivers;
+ Conduct home visits, assure compliance and confirm a safe environment with standards and department expectations;
+ Re-assess certified families on an ongoing basis and assure recertification compliance requirements are met at a minimum of every two years;
+ Document assessment activities and complete other documentation requirements per department policies;
+ Assure completion of background and reference checks for criminal history, child abuse, and personal references.
+ Retention:
+ Support and facilitate communication between certified families and case workers to ensure services and resources are available to children and young adults;
+ Develop, implement and participate in local community efforts to provide supportive communication networks for certified families through informational newsletters and recognition activities.
+ Placement Matching / Support for Child:
+ Facilitate the establishment and involvement of certified families in mentorship and support groups that teach and encourage responsible substitute care giving;
+ Involve the child's parent or legal guardian in identifying substitute care placement resources whenever possible
+ Consider potential substitute care placements that meet the needs of the child
+ Assure that the substitute care placement is the most home-like, least restrictive available to meet the child's needs
+ Implement and monitor Placement Support Plans for any certified family who needs assistance in maintaining conditions that provide safety and wellbeing to children or young adults in the home.
+ Training:
+ Provide orientation to applicants.
+ Present Child Welfare's Foundations training to all applicants.
+ Develop a training plan with the certified families.
+ Other Duties as assigned
We are looking for candidates with a work history that demonstrates skill with the following:
+ Effective Teamwork
+ Ability to make sound critical thinking decisions
+ Child welfare program experience.
+ Experience investigating reports alleging child abuse or neglect.
+ Experience gathering information to assess family situations and determining appropriate substitute care for children.
+ Experience screening and assessing clients for appropriate community referral or eligibility for programs related to human services.
+ Experience preparing and maintaining narrative documentation of the activities concerning individual client cases.
+ Experience working with individuals and families from diverse cultures.
+ Experience documenting individual client cases
+ Computer proficiency
+ Experience communicating effectively with people over the telephone, in writing and in person
This is what you need to qualify:
Professional who have a Bachelor's or higher level degree in Social Work/Human Services or a closely related field; OR
A Bachelor's degree in a field not closely related (to Social Work/Human Services) and one year of human services related experience (i.e., work providing assistance to individuals and groups with issues such as economically disadvantaged, employment, abuse and neglect, substance abuse, aging, disabilities, prevention, health, cultural competencies, inadequate housing).
Requirements for position: FBI Criminal Justice Information Services (CJIS) clearance.
