Early Childhood Educational Assistant Early Childhood Special Education at Clackamas ESD Less than 17.5 hours per week Long term temporary: through June 14, 2018 EARLY LEARNING PROGRAM: Clackamas ESD has been providing services for young children with special needs in Clackamas County for more than thirty years. The Clackamas Early Intervention and Early Childhood Special Education program continues to focus on working with families, local school districts, and other community programs to prepare young children with special needs to enter kindergarten ready to learn. Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education serves eligible children ages 0-5 years who experience delays or disabilities. Services are individualized according to the child's needs and may include home visiting; consultation to staff at community preschools, Head Start classrooms, or child care settings; specialized preschool; related services such as speech, motor, or other specialists; and parent education. Children may be referred by parents, community preschools, local school districts, physicians, or other community service providers. GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE POSITION: The Educational Assistant assists the Early Childhood Specialists and families to promote development and learning for young children with special needs from birth to age five. The Educational Assistant delivers services delegated by a specialist and based on the individual needs of the child and family delineated in the IFSP. The Educational Assistant supports developmental activities working with a variety of professionals and community providers in community preschools, Head Start, day care centers, specialized preschools, infant/toddler groups, therapy groups, private homes, and other natural environments for young children. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides instruction in a variety of settings, including private homes, infant/toddler groups, therapy groups, community preschools, and specialized preschools Assists with management of children's behavior using teaching and behavioral procedures which conform with best practices for young children and the individualized needs of each child Under the design and direction of an Early Childhood Specialist or related services staff, implements fine and gross motor activities, and speech and language activities as assigned Performs health tasks and implements individualized protocols delegated by a Registered Nurse and assigned by an Early Childhood Specialist Collects and records data regarding the children's progress See the complete list of essential functions in the job description attached to the announcement on our employment webpage . MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be at least 18 years of age Ability to acquire and maintain a valid first aid card Training or successful experience working with young children birth to age five and their families Ability to acquire knowledge and apply family guided service principles sufficient to perform essential functions General office skills (word processing, business machines, filing) sufficient to perform essential functions Ability to work as a member of a collaborative team Demonstrated ability to work independently and use initiative to accomplish tasks with general instruction and guidance from an Early Childhood Specialist or related services staff Ability to work under one or more supervisors Written and oral communication skills sufficient to perform essential functions Physical and mental attributes sufficient to perform essential functions CLACKAMAS ESD Clackamas Education Service District is one of Oregon's 19 ESDs charged with providing programs for children with special needs, technology support, school improvement, and administrative services to local school districts and the Oregon Department of Education. Clackamas ESD serves all school districts in Clackamas County, including Canby, Colton, Estacada, Gladstone, Lake Oswego, Molalla River, North Clackamas, Oregon City, Oregon Trail, and West Linn-Wilsonville. These districts range in size from about 630 to 17,300 students. There are approximately 59,500 students in the ten school districts. Clackamas ESD offers a comprehensive set of services through the following departments: Teaching and Learning; Technology Services; and Special Education Services, which includes the Early Learning Program.
