Nursing Instructor Salary $55,118.52 - $60,919.32 Annually Location Milwaukie, OR Job Type Full-Time, Union, Exempt Division Technology, Applied Science and Public Services Job Number 1415-00446 Closing Continuous Description This position will remain open until filled. Instructors will be expected to provide high quality instruction to nursing students in accordance with college and department mission, vision and values. This includes facilitation of student learning in the classroom and/or clinical setting. TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: This is a 100%, 175-day faculty assignment. Requires flexible work schedule to meet program needs, which may include evenings, nights and/or weekends. Many clinical shifts are 12 hours. A criminal background check and drug screen will be required prior to being in the clinical setting. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The College/Health Sciences Department and the Nursing Program are committed to student success and progression, therefore faculty work as a team toward that end. Responsibilities of instructor/faculty are: Work collaboratively with personnel in the college and with community partners. Participation in college, Oregon Consortium for Nursing Education (OCNE) and/or professional committees/organizations. The Nursing Program is a member of OCNE and utilizes a competency-based curriculum which is delivered via concept-based instruction. Responsibilities of instructor/faculty are: Innovative instruction in a variety of classroom, clinical and clinical laboratory settings. Clinical experiences are predominantly centered in med/surg and community settings Participation in curriculum/course development, evaluation and revision. Curriculum addresses concepts across the life span with a focus on Health Promotion, Acute Care, Chronic Illness Management and End of Life. Development and delivery of student-centered experiences that promotes learning Plans learning experiences with intent of assisting students in meeting course/curriculum outcomes Participation in evaluation of student learning and performance Facilitation of student learning by providing timely feedback Ability to facilitate the learning of a diverse student population including people of all ages from academically, culturally and economically diverse backgrounds The Nursing Program is approved by the Oregon State Board of Nursing (OSBN) and Clackamas Community College (CCC) is accredited by Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities (NWCCU). Responsibilities of instructor/faculty are: Participation in the implementation and evaluation of CCC and Nursing Program policies and procedures Participate in the development, adherence to and evaluation of program standards related to OSBN approval. MINIMUM/MANDATORY EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: Master's of Science in Nursing, or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and currently enrolled in a Master's of Nursing program, or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in a related field and willing to enroll upon hire, at own expense, in an Oregon State Board of Nursing Approved Post-Master's Certificate program, or Bachelor's degree in Nursing and a Master's degree in a related field predicated on OSBN approval for exception. Current unencumbered Oregon RN Licensure or ability to obtain upon hire. Must be willing to obtain Washington RN license upon hire. Three (3) years working experience as a registered nurse. Each full year is equivalent to 1,664 hours. Willingness to integrate new patient care content and/or refresh direct patient care clinical skills when applicable. Demonstrate ability to work effectively in an innovative team environment where change is the norm. Excellent planning and organizational skills DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Strong commitment to nursing education and demonstrated commitment to student learning. Teaching experience in a nursing program leading to eligibility for RN licensure. Work experience related to medical/surgical, OB, pediatric or mental health nursing. Recent clinical experience in medical/surgical nursing preferred. Experience using a variety of teaching and assessment techniques - including the use of technology to enhance student success. Ability to adapt varying pedagogical approaches to meet the needs of students with differing learning styles and abilities. Willingness to take a leadership role in areas of educational and professional expertise. Experience in implementing techniques of critical thinking in the classroom and in clinical settings. Willingness to provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Familiarity with OCNE curriculum and/or local clinical partners associated with CCC REQUIRED CERTIFICATIONS, SCREENINGS AND IMMUNIZATIONS (upon hire): CPR/Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers. Evidence requires documented receipt of vaccine or documented immunity via titer or valid history of disease, or a record from the Oregon ALERT Immunization Information System. Hepatitis B (Hep B) series with titer to confirm immunity. Measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) Tetanus, diphtheria, pertussis (Tdap) Varicella Influenza (seasonal flu) Tuberculosis (TB) IGRA Blood test or chest x-ray TECHNICAL STANDARDS REQUIRED FOR POSITION: The work environment characteristics described below are representative of the technical standards an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. Sensory Nursing faculty members must have the ability to obtain or collect information through observation, listening, touching or smelling. Cognitive Nursing faculty members must have the ability to 1) recall, collect, analyze, synthesize, and integrate information from a variety of sources, 2) problem-solve and think critically in order to apply knowledge and skill, 3) communicate verbally, and through reading and writing, with individuals from a variety of social, emotional, cultural, and intellectual backgrounds and 4) relay information in oral and written form effectively, accurately, reliably, and intelligibly to individuals and groups, using the English language. Behavioral Nursing faculty members must have the ability to 1) demonstrate emotional stability to function effectively under stress and adapt to changing environments, 2) maintain effective and sensitive relationships with others, 3) examine and modify their own behavior when it interferes with others or the learning environment, 4) possess attributes that include compassion, empathy, altruism, integrity, honesty, responsibility and tolerance. Instructor must be able to remain on their feet for extended periods, have sufficient strength to lift; hear heart and breath sounds; read fine print; and identify skin tones such as pale, ashen, gray or cyanotic. Manual dexterity and coordination are required over 50% of the work period while operating equipment such as computer keyboard, monitor, projector, calculator, printer, and standard office equipment.
