Non-exempt, hourly, part-time positions, 25 hours per week
One morning position (7:30am-12:30pm) and one afternoon position (12:30pm-6pm) available
Position closes when filled
Start Date: Mid-August 2017

SCOPE OF THE POSITION
The Classroom Aide will work with all preschool students, primarily the students assigned to our Ladybug (full-day, year-round) classroom. S/he will work with the teaching team to implement curriculum that is developmentally appropriate and flexible to meet the needs of individual children and the group. This position helps facilitate daily classroom maintenance, preparation for activities, and weekly changes of classroom environment. Desirable candidates for the position bring enthusiasm for helping children learn and develop to their fullest potential within a neighborhood center setting. This position is 25 hours per week, year-round.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Child Supervision and Interaction
Provide a safe, healthy environment for children ages 3-5.
Work with Co-Head Teachers to lead a group of up to 20 children.
Share responsibility with the teaching staff in monitoring the physical and mental health status of each child.
Observation, Assessment and Screening
Assist in the recording of regular observations of children engaged in a variety of activities.
Assist with required assessments and screenings when appropriate.
Assist with the recording of assessment, screening and attendance results.
Planning, Preparation, and Meetings
Assist the Co-Head Teachers in implementing a developmentally appropriate, anti-bias curriculum.
Share responsibility for daily classroom setup and cleanup with teaching staff.
Prepare the classroom and gym environments to meet the changing needs of the children.
Help prepare and setup snacks and meals when necessary.
Help prepare and set up for parent meetings and family socials.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Participate in a minimum of 15 hours of training per school year.
Attend Friendly House meetings and trainings as assigned.
Help Friendly House fulfill its community-building mission through interactions with students, families, staff and the community.
Complete other duties as requested.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS
Associate's degree or CDA (Child Development Associate) or two years post-secondary education with some coursework in early childhood education as defined by the Oregon Registry Step 7 that includes 12 quarter college course credits or 8 semester college course credits and two years of experience teaching 3–5 year old children in an early childhood setting; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Enrolled on the Oregon Criminal History Registry.
Must be 18 years of age or older.
Within 90 days of hire, must be certified in CPR and First Aid and obtain a Food Handlers Card.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood Education or closely related field OR enrollment in a 4-year program pursuing such a degree.

KNOWLEDGE
Best practices in early childhood education.
Childcare licensing requirements and regulations or a willingness to learn.

SKILLS
General use of Microsoft Office.
Exceptional communication skills both with children and adults.

ABILITIES
Work independently with minimal supervision.
Multi-task and adapt to various situations.
Routinely lift 50 pounds.
Bend, twist, stoop and keep pace with children.

JOB CONDITIONS
This job is performed at Friendly House campus. Must have the physical ability to participate in the activities of the program. The program moves to outside locations for field trips on foot and by bus. Lifting children is required from time to time.

COMPENSATION
Our compensation package is designed to provide a living wage, improve your skills and improve your health and well-being. Starting salary is $12.25 per hour. This position is eligible for vacation and sick leave accrual after a successful 90-day evaluation. A membership to the Friendly House Community Recreation and Education program is given to all staff members.
