Job Description Reports to: Head of School Position Description: PE Teacher in specialized school for students with Dyslexia and related learning difficulties. Prefer experience in special education or working with kids who learn differently. Seeking applicants for a teaching position at an Independent School in Lake Oswego for grades 3-12 that serves students with language learning differences including dyslexia. Qualifications: · Must possess a current Oregon Teaching License. · Bachelor’s degree from accredited four-year higher education institutions. · Prefer background/experience in multisensory instruction including Barton Reading and Spelling System or other Orton/Gillingham based reading program. · Prefer a Special Education endorsement. · Experience using multiple assessments to inform instruction. · Ability to collaborate with a high performing teaching team. Primary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Responsible for instructing basic physical education and fitness to students at either 3-8 and 9-12 grade levels. 2. Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, individual or team sports and other appropriate learning activities. 3. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. 4. Provides appropriate safety instructions and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to insure the overall safety of students. 5. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. 6. Evaluates each student’s growth in physical skills and knowledge. 7. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the school. 8. Communicates with teachers and administration on student progress. 9. Identifies student needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping students solve health, attitude, and learning problems. 10. Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. 11. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. 12. Other duties as may be assigned. Secondary Duties and Responsibilities 1. Attend a variety of meetings as is necessary. The may include, staff meetings, curricular meetings, and teacher trainings. 2. Attend occasional off hour events and trainings including open houses, back-to-school nights and school promotional events. 3. Maintain educational best practices including appropriate lesson planning, student progress monitoring, family and peer communication, and report writing. 4. Support a positive school culture. 5. Support and implement school policy as related to both faculty and students in and out of the classroom.
