Full Time - 40 hrs week with extensive benefit package, schedule varies

Part Time - 1 day per week, plus call


POSITION SUMMARY

Performs the full range of laboratory tests required by the physicians, as delineated by the administrator in the scope of tests to be performed at LCCH. Performs same with a high degree of accuracy and speed.


DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES


1) Performs all required laboratory tests as approved by the supervisor, lead technologist and medical advisor and reports the results of same in a manner that is accurate, prompt, in accordance with accepted laboratory practice, and cost - effective. Oversees out quality control program.
2) Maintains required logs, records, test results and other docu­mentation as directed. May be assigned special projects.
3) Maintains a high level of cleanliness and sanitation in the laboratory, practices good housekeeping at all times.
4) Disposes of all reagents, chemicals, specimens, glassware, or other refuse in a manner that is in accordance with generally accepted laboratory practice and government rules or regulations.
5) Works at all times in a manner that is observant of good, generally acceptable, safety practice, Uses correct technique in order to protect self and others from undue hazard, contamina­tion, or harm. Is aware of and uses when needed the appropriate fire/safety devices and systems available in the hospital. Is prepared at all times to properly implement the fire/evacuation and disaster plans of the hospital as these exist and are activated.
6) Functions in a smooth, harmonious manner with all physicians, other hospital personnel, and administration. Strives to foster good communication, constructive problem solving, and an amiable work relationship with others at all times.
7) Maintains strict confidentiality of all test results. At no time under any circumstances, discusses the results of lab tests with a patient or other employee, without the express consent of the attending physician.
8) Strive to develop self in the practice of laboratory functions. Stays proficient in all required laboratory tests.
9) Assists the scheduled lab technologist as requested when workload is heavy.
Schedule may vary as needed.

QUALIFICATIONS

1) Holds a current ASCP rating as a Medical Technician MLT, or has satisfactorily passed the Medicare Proficiency exam and is so certified as a Laboratory Technician MLT.
2) Must receive a positive rating from previous employers/physicians as to technical competence.
