THE PORTLAND CLINIC JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE Resource Center Medical Assistant SUPERVISOR Nursing Supervisor HOURS PER WEEK Variable Non Exempt DEPARTMENT Resource Center The following information is designed to outline the essential functions and position requirements of this job It does not identify all tasks that may be expected nor address the performance standards that must be maintained PRIMARY FUNCTION Responsible for taking patient phone calls according to the approved written protocols Assist with electronic inbasket work between telephone calls including MyChart messages Escalate calls as needed to the Resource Center RN for triage and advice DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS Maintain communications with Resource Center Supervisor Interact with supervisor to resolve inter department problems concerns or conflicts Comply with HIPAA regulations at all times Assist in completing tasks from the inbaskets in the Electronic Health Record EHR such as MyChart messages letters to patients expiring orders etc Schedule patients for appointments as needed Follow The Portland Clinica s TPC guidelines for documentation including use of forms and computer data entry using the EHR Maintain safety standards such as use of patient safety equipment knowledge of emergency procedures body mechanics and ergonomics Participate in quality improvement projects including assessment of office functions and systems with implementation of methods to improve efficiency and outcomes as requested by supervisor Attend nursing department meetings and in services Answer patienta s phone calls and messages in a timely manner Maintain high level of confidentiality Participate as a team member to assist and train others as needed Work closely with Resource Center RNs asking for their guidance in patient care situations as necessary Participate as an active team member in a patient centered medical home Work respectfully and collaboratively in a team environment with a spirit of cooperation Attend work regularly as scheduled EDUCATION CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS Current Medical Assistant Certification High School Diploma or equivalent Current CPR Certification EXPERIENCE QUALIFICATIONS SKILLS PREFERRED Previous experience in ambulatory care Values team success Compassionate patient and tactful Proficiency in charting and documentation Oral communication skills and excellent phone etiquette with an ability to convey and receive information via the telephone Competency in language grammar and spelling Ability to interact and establish good rapport with people over the telephone and in person often in stressful situations Capability of effectively working on more than one task without a reduction in the quality of work and service performed Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations and to work under pressure Ability to accept responsibility and use initiative to proceed with necessary tasks without direct supervision
