### Responsibilities
The VA Portland Health Care System (VAPORHCS) is a Complexity Level I a facility and provides extensive primary, secondary, tertiary, and quaternary care in outpatient, inpatient, residential, and community settings. VAPORHCS is a multi-site health care system that includes a major medical facility in Portland, Oregon; outpatient and residential facilities in Vancouver, Washington; and 10 Community Based Outpatient Clinics in central and western Oregon. VAPORHCS is an academic health care system with significant teaching and research programs.
The GS-12 Acute Psychiatry Supervisory Social Worker provides supervisory and administrative oversight to staff assigned to their program. They are responsible for oversight of performance measures applicable to their area and for tracking workload and productivity. As the supervisor, the incumbent plans, establishes, and implements policies and procedures, develops individual and team goals/objectives, as well as monitoring, operating, evaluating, and coordinating their assigned staff. The incumbent will assure that their supervised staff are aware of and adhere to all current VHA Directives, Joint Commission Standards, licensing requirements, VA OIG expectations, and with all other appropriate regulatory agencies.
They may provide direct social work services to VAPORHCS Veterans in the Portland-based Acute Psychiatric programs (inpatient, transitional, and emergency) depending on staffing levels and medical center need. These services include provision of high quality psychosocial screening and assessment and diagnosis, psychosocial treatment and intervention, specialized case management and care coordination, advocacy, health education, supportive counseling and caregiver support, discharge and/or after-care planning with coordination of linkages to other appropriate VA or community service providers and/or agencies as needed by the client. The Supervisory Social Worker works closely with other members of the interdisciplinary treatment team to accomplish these duties.
The Acute Psychiatry Supervisory Social Worker is the key point of contact between VAPORHCS and the employees they supervise. They will provide administrative oversight as well as direct patient care when needed.

### Qualifications
**Basic Requirements**:
* United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy.
* **Education**- Master's degree in social work (MSW) from a school of social work fully accredited by the Council on Social Work Education (CSWE), or other master's in science in social work (MSSW), social service administration (MSSA), social service (MSS), social administration (MSA) or social welfare as accredited by the CSWE.
* **Licensure**- Must be licensed or certified at the **advanced**practice level and must be able to provide supervision for subordinate staff to qualify for licensure.
**Preferred Experience:** Mental Health, Acute Psychiatry
**Grade Determinations**: At the GS-l2 grade, Supervisory Social Workers typically have significant personnel management responsibilities for a small to medium size professional and non-professional staff, including support staff and professional staff at the GS-11 grade level and below. They are responsible for the professional and administrative management of an area in a social work service, in a care line, or multiple facilities. They also provide direct clinical services with or without program coordination responsibilities.
**Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**
1. Ability to independently organize work, set priorities, and meet multiple deadlines.
2. Knowledge and skill in management/administration, which includes supervision, consultation, negotiation, and monitoring.
3. Ability to ensure provision of clinical social work services by supervised social workers.
4. Ability to provide administrative supervision and clinical supervision, including supervision for social work licensure.
