Looking for Bassist

ISO bass player. IF you play a stand up there are extra points, but not exclusive to that dimension. Vocal ability helpful, but not imperative. Performance-minded intermediate level, but pushing it up very quickly. Currently, we are two as mostly acoustic rhythm/lead and voices. Adding drums/percussion soon as possible. I will send a URL to responders to review some of our musical work (raw, but you get the idea). We lean towards Originals, Dylan, Rhett Miller, Bonnie Raitt, Shawn Colvin, Wilco, etc. We are looking to practice 2x a week and eventually perform 1 or 2x a week if not more. Open to ages mid 20s and 50s. No smoking please.

Pirate Girls?

Yarrr! We've been a pirate band in Portland for about the past five years.
It's been a band of dudes up until now, and we think it's time for the pirate girls to represent
We get really good shows, and it's an easy band to book. It's the most fun you can have with your
clothes on...which is optional. lol!

It's one night a week practice and a few shows a month.
I'd like to put series of out of town shows together for next spring.
Probably Washington or northern California.

We're looking for drums, keys, guitar, bass, stringy thing, blowy
thing....Whatever you play is fine. It's more about the piratute.
Ambition goes a long way. We're pirates first...the musicianship is just a necessary evil.
Yarrrrr!

Check us out at:

Or just Google Sunken Chest.
There is a bunch of stuff out there from outdoor shows we've played around the coast.

Smart Bass Player with Chops and Dynamics Wanted (Milwaukie)

This is a new project. All original material. We are not established yet and we are very much in the writing stages. Not all the pieces are there yet but the core is very solid and has incredible writing and technical skills.

What we have -
A solid drummer
An incredible guitar player and song writer
A smokin keyboard player and song writer (thats me)
A groovy rhythm guitar player
About seven songs in various stages of completion
Killer practice space, recording capable (actually we record all our practices)
Good attitudes (we like having fun but if your idea of rehearsal is getting wasted don't bother. We'll have to kick your ass and then the cops get involved... just save us the trouble)

What we need -
You, if you're a good bass player who is looking for some creative license and fun.
Lead Vocals

The plan is to round out the rhythm section, record some songs, then search for vocals. We have some high hopes. The written material is still evolving but is very cerebral. It's on the order of Tool, Alice in Chains, Joe Satriani (I know, one of these things is not like the other but if you can imagine their bastard child...).

About us -

We're all in our mid thirties (except for our Drummer, he's old (ok, he's 40)). We have lots of experience on our instruments and pro gear. Tim, drummer, and I are coming off a 4 year stint in a cover band. We realized that we had some pent up creativity that needed an outlet. We stumbled on a killer guitar player, Will, and started writing and haven’t looked back. Will and I have an excellent creative repoire and a strong theory background, Tim is always right there with a creative beat or two or 7. Jeff likes to hang out on rhythm guitar and rounds out our sound. The majority of the tunes right now are 4/4 but we are looking to experiment with off meter and have been experimenting with creative rhythms and chord changes. The music is slower and dark, lots of minor tonality and a few upbeat numbers as well. We don't have any expectations for the music right now. It just seems to happen.

What we want from you -

Rule #1: Don't be a dick! If you don't have any friends and your mom never calls you, you're a dick. We won't get along with you and we'll have to kick your ass (see above). Seriously though, personality matters a lot. It creates the environment that we create in.
Please have some gear. Something that sounds good and can cut through the other instruments if needed.
Have some experience. Nothing is worse than meeting a cool guy/gal who attracts wildebeest in heat when he/she plays. Again, the asskicking, blah, blah, blah.
Commit or don't. If you miss a practice, cool. We all have lives. But call ahead and don't make a habit out of it or, you guessed it...

So in conclusion, be awesome, and cool, and good on your instrument. If you still have questions please call Dustin (503) 752-4806. It's my business line too so don't freak out if I answer it as such.

Bass Player Needed!

Bass player needed to complete 3 or 4 piece original metal project. Age 30+ preferred, but willing to look at younger/mature players. Male or female doesn't matter so long as you have chops and can keep up. The material we are working on currently is in somewhere in the vein of Down, Prong, Pantera, with some regular old schoolish riffing mixed in as well. We have gear (drums, bass, guitar, small pa, etc) and a place to rehearse. All you have to do is show up with your talent. We're older and don't have delusions of getting "signed." We just want to play music that we love, and do it well. J. 503-428-4334

Experienced rock/ punk band must replace bass

Experienced guitar/vocals, guitar and drums looking for bass. Ideally you bring your own feel and a few original tunes to the band, but if you just want to learn our songs no one will complain.

In a perfect world you have a practice space, but we aren't really expecting that.

Some tunes up on myspace under a previous band name (The Warshers) but with two guitars the band has moved in a louder direction since then. Still some dynamics and acoustic around the edges.

Call Alan (503-415-1924) to learn more.

Bass needed for "Latin-punk"

Hey, this excellent drummer and I have been working on creating a hybrid of Latin rhythms, punk energy, and post-punk craziness. I play guitar and yell, and we need bass to fill out the sound. We've recorded a few songs, on which I played bass, which you can hear here:

Think Bad Brains vs. Ruben Blades. Some other influences include Hector Lavoe, Fugazi, 8 y Mas, Explode Into Colors, Sonic Youth, Carlinhos Brown, The Jesus Lizard, PiL, Santana, Willie Colon, Desi Arnaz, Pretty Girls Make Graves, etc.

H1N1??? Come get your Shot of Mercury! Do you love no-frills, straight up rock n’ roll? Maybe with a little shot of metal added in? Do you play guitar? Did Rick Allen drum with both arms in your lifetime? Then, you may be the missing strand of DNA for our band, Shot of Mercury.

We seek a 2nd guitarist. Interested? Check us out at www.shotofmercury.com or www.myspace.com/shotofmercury

Respond to this ad if you like what you hear. We practice in SE, but our slacker bass player would love a ride from SW if you live nearby!

I have solo acoustic footage up at www.YouTube.com/CourtingConstantine to view.
I'm 27 years old, and as the header indicates I play the guitar, bass, and sing. I also play the piano/keyboard a bit, the cello, and write original material. I'm seeking to either join or to start a band. Some of my influences are Live, Rise Against, Collective Soul, Thirty Seconds to Mars, Pete Stewart, and Muse. Basically I'm into rock, alternative, and punk. Shoot me an email if you or your band is potentially interested. Thanks!

Established Alternative / Indie Songwriter looking for a Traveling Band.

posted: September 7, 2009, 02:56 AM

Replydandelionsnow@lions-tooth.com

GREETINGS!
My name is Roger Harvey; I’m 22 yrs. old, and new to Portland via New York City.

I am a semi-established independently rooted songwriter that performs songs under the name DANDELION SNOW. I draw from a lot of the older more rock n’ roll/literary routed songwriters, such as Neil Young, Townes Van Zandt, Leonard Cohen, Gram Parsons, Dylan, etc. as well as the newer generation of indie-songwriters, like Elliott Smith, Jeff Mangum, Ian Mackaye, ect.

Over the past six months I have released 3 records, an 11-song split album with Morgan Erina, entitled "Skeleton Butterflies", on Lock and Key Collective. A 5-song EP entitled "Joy, Joy, Joy", on Lion's Tooth Records. And a Split with Tucker Riggleman (of the Demon Beat), out on Big Bullet Records. The limited hard-copy pressings of these releases have sold out on tour and are only available now, digitally through sites like iTunes, Amazon, etc.

Since January 1st.
I have made five rounds of the east coast on tour, and over 50 one-offs and weekend shows. I have been touring with bands since I was eleven years old, and have no plans to hit the brakes with this project. I spent the last two months in Pennsylvania with some friends in the studio recording some new material. In this time, I recorded a 10-song full band production, entitled "The Grand Scheme of Things", produced by Chris Barker (of Anti-Flag), as well as a Split Acoustic LP with Justin Sane, that is more stripped down. (Both are still in the post-production stages, and yet to be released, although have already given me a bit of a leg up in the indie music world to have more label and touring opportunities.)

Everything I have done thus far in the six months of traveling on this material has been done on my own. That is not to discount the endless support and help from close friends. (I would be nowhere if it weren’t for them) I believe in a DIY-ethic, and indie-sensible approach to making, and exposing art & music.

.......

WHAT I AM LOOKING FOR:

1. Young Musicians.
of all shapes and sizes with an indie-sensibility.
(Percussion/Keys, Guitars [Electric, Bass, Lap/Pedal Steel, Mandolin, Banjo.], Strings, Horns, etc.)

2. MUST BE READY TO TRAVEL.(I have a van, it’s super sweet…)

3. Must want to make things happen.
I want to make friend with ideas.
I don’t want to be the captain.
I want to share things and help each other out.

LET’S WORK TOGETHER ON THIS!

---------

SONGWRITING:

The way I write songs is very rudimentary. My main focus remains more on the literary side; because of this my musical composition tends to be more on the minimalist side.

I AM LOOKING FOR A BAND, NOT BACK-UP PLAYERS.

I’m looking to make friends, and have some fun. It would be awesome to be able to collaborate with some kids that are more musically complex. Since the writing side and basic melody construction is more what I bring to the table, the ideal collaboration would be someone that is more in to musical complexity.

--------

MY GOALS FOR THE REST OF THE YEAR:

1. 30+ Song Retrospective Releases. I am compiling a collection of 30+ old songs to release as a 2-disc set on Lock and Key Collective/Lion’s Tooth Records as kind of an opening retrospective of my songwriting. One idea I had was to release this digitally, and have a limited number distributed only to local PDX record stores.

2. New Full-length Record. Write and Record a new full-length together. I want to write this record as a band. A more stripped down Indie-folk record, with orchestration. But let’s not pin anything down just yet.

3. Support Tours. I am hoping, and it is seeming that, the release of the two aforementioned records, “The Grand Scheme of Things” and the Dandelion Snow/Justin Sane Split, I made recently will open the doors to some new label and touring opportunities.

There is already an east-coast tour booked at the end of July. It is a short run, with the acclaimed band The Demon Beat from Shepherdstown, WV. It’s five days out, and all the shows should be very good and a whole lot of fun.

I like to party, I like to have a good time; I care a lot about independent music and art. I like to have ideas and follow-through on them. I am not trying to get famous, be larger than life, or get rich. I believe in independent music, I believe in what I do, and I just want to make some new friends, make things and share them. I want to collaborate and make this more of a band, and less of a solo-project. That was my vision from the beginning. But the cards haven’t fallen into place yet. If you are interested, you can email me at dandelionsnow@lions-tooth.com.

THANKS FOR YOUR TIME!

Peace & Love,
Roger Harvey / Dandelion Snow
